Family Policing and Trans Youth in Texas

Texas Governor Abbott has called on professionals and members of the public to report parents whose children receive gender-affirming care to “child protective” services. This transphobic and homophobic policing is using mandated reporting and the family policing system to enact violence on children and families. Rise supports trans youth, their parents/caregivers and medical providers of essential gender-affirming care. Parents should be supported in—not punished for—caring for their trans children! Rise calls for an end to mandated reporting, policing and punishment.

Halimah Washington Speaks at AQE Press Conference Demanding $5B for Universal Child Care

Rise joined Alliance for Quality Education (AQE), parents and child care providers at a press conference in the Bronx on February 24th to demand NY State invest $5 billion in universal child care.

Rise Community Coordinator Halimah Washington spoke about the need for universal child care and the link between the lack of accessible child care and family policing.
