Over the past year, in partnership with TakeRoot Justice, a team of six parents at Rise led a participatory action research (PAR) project to document the harms of the family policing system and develop a vision and plan for investing in structures of community care and support. The Rise PAR team facilitated 10 focus groups—called community conversations—and conducted a survey with parents and community members across New York City who have been impacted by the family policing system.
On September 29, Rise will publish our research report, An Unavoidable System: The Harms of Family Policing and Parents’ Vision for Investing in Community Care. We invite you to join us via Zoom for our report release event, which will provide an introduction to the Rise PAR Team and research process, as well as a glimpse into our research findings, recommendations and calls to action.
