Stepping Into Fatherhood

Children do better when their fathers are involved in raising them yet many fathers are less involved in their children’s lives than they want to be. Sometimes that’s because of conflict with their children’s mother. Other times it’s because fathers feel ashamed that they can’t provide more for their children financially. Some fathers get locked up or caught up. Some just don’t feel confident about how to be a good father to their kids.

This booklet is written by young fathers who have struggled with all of these issues. It includes guidance from fathers and from professionals about how dads can support their children’s sense of safety, learning and joy in life. It also includes information about serious issues including addiction, domestic violence and child welfare involvement to help fathers steer through difficult circumstances.
