DESCRIPTION:Join the Advocacy Institute in collaboration with Rise for a training on the basics of political advocacy. In this training\, we will discuss why it is important for you to make your voice heard and work with elected officials to address issues affecting your communities. Working with the government can be intimidating and systems of governance can be very complicated; this training will begin to demystify government processes and address why and how you should begin advocacy. \nWe’ll cover: \n\nHow marginalized communities have been excluded from government and advocacy spaces and how you can work to address this inequity\nHow to align your advocacy with government processes and timelines\nHow to prepare yourself to effectively work with elected officials\nWhy working together in coalition with others is an effective strategy for advocacy\n\nAll are welcome. SUMMARY:Abolition Training Retreat: Day One
DESCRIPTION:During this two-day workshop\, we will explore abolition as a vision\, practice and a call to action as we reimagine communities that promote family safety\, well-being and justice. \nOn day one\, we will share stories\, learn about histories of oppression and resistance and share out collective experiences with the family policing system. \nDay two will focus on healing-justice and abolitionist practices that we can all engage in to get us closer to the world we want to create. \nWe highly encourage participants to attend both sessions (5/24 and 5/31). \nThis training will be hosted and led by Rise. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Parent Advocates’ completion of the Rise CORE Training Program! \nRise’s Winter 2022 CORE cohort ran from February through May and provided training for impacted parents working as Parent Advocates in NYC foster agencies. The training series covered topics including Rise visiting and service planning TIPS\, the Rise 90-day model to support reunification\, relationship building\, parents’ legal rights\, toxic stress\, community organizing\, legislative advocacy and the history of child welfare. The program also included community building\, an introduction to restorative justice practices\, writing and public speaking workshops and additional training opportunities.  \nGraduation will be held via Zoom.  \nRegister via Eventbrite to attend the graduation.
