Nora is the director of Rise, which means she works with the staff, board and our parent community to set the direction of the organization and to keep our programs and funding aligned with the vision. Nora founded Rise in 2005. She is passionate about Rise because she’s been learning from parents’ expertise and has been part of Rise’s joyful community since she began working with parents affected by the child welfare system in 2003. Nora is also passionate about writing and journalism as agents of social change. Nora previously edited the youth publications New Youth Connections and Represent, a magazine by teens in foster care, both published by Youth Communication. Under Nora’s co-leadership, Represent earned top awards from the Association of Educational Publishers and Mental Health America. Nora has written for Newsday, Slate, The Appeal, The Imprint, Child Welfare Watch and City Limits and graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
