Rise is hiring a Community Coordinator to mobilize NYC parents impacted by the child welfare system to develop a Parents’ Platform for community investment and community-based approaches to preventing and repairing harm. 

The ideal candidate is a parent who has been personally impacted by the child welfare system, is experienced in leading teams and facilitation, and has worked as an advocate in child welfare and/or community justice movements. 

This is a full-time role. All work will be remote for now because of COVID-19 but this position will be based in Rise’s NYC office when possible.

The Community Coordinator is a newly created role to build out Rise’s work of preventing system involvement. The Community Coordinator will:

> Lead a team of 4-6 impacted parents to hold Community Conversation and a participatory action research project to identify and develop a vision to address root causes and community-led solutions to child welfare involvement; 

> Outreach to aligned justice organizations to recruit parent participants; 

> Collaborate with Rise staff to develop opportunities for community healing, advocacy and leadership-building for parent participants; 

> Publicly share our blueprint for investment in impacted families and communities; 

In addition, the ideal job candidate will have:

> 3-5 years of experience in advocacy in child welfare or community justice movements;

> Background in community organizing, legislative advocacy and abolition movements;

> Experience running complex projects, supervising and leading teams, and facilitation;

> Excellent public speaking and writing skills;

> Interpersonal skills to work sensitively on topics involving trauma, stress and healing;

> Social media skills to amplify parents’ political agenda, as well as basic computer skills including the Google / Microsoft Office Suite;

> Passion for parent leadership and preventing child welfare involvement.

Please note that this role requires flexibility in hours and ability to travel locally in order to connect with parents and community organizations. 


Compensation 

Salary range is $50-$55,000, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits include: medical, dental and eye coverage; 4 weeks of vacation; TransitCheks, health savings and dependent savings account, etc. Rise is a partner project of the Fund for the City of New York.
